urg
I know Al has this issue sometimes, and franckly I don't know how he deals with it. I am going crazy.
I normally don't get enough sleep, but the last probably 3 or 4 weeks, I hav ebeen having a lot of trouble actually getting to sleep, maybe it is just the heat, who knows.
I do however know that I am going crazy trying to get myself to fall asleep. Tried meditating, warm milk. getting out of bed and doing something else. Nothing seems to be working for me at the moment.

Personally, I can't make myself fall asleep. If I try to force myself to sleep, I end up not being able to. The more I try, the harder it is for me to fall sleep. Strange, but true. So, I usually settle into bed and "try" to stay awake. Usually try to work on something in my head like a problem for work, a plot or character D&D, schedule time for tomorrow. . . whatever. I usually fall asleep in a minute or two that way.
I have a hard time sleeping when it's hot. My mom thinks I was crazy spending that much for it, but the portable A/C unit I got a few years ago was worth every penny.

try re-arranging your room. seriously, sometimes it helps.
i feel your pain, really and truly. i broke down and went to the doctor a few weeks ago and got a mild prescription. i haven't broken down further and used it yet though.
so i'll reccomend all the standards.
-soothing hot tea
-shower/bath before bedtime
-make yourself a nice comforting snack and take it to bed with you. something very light. small bowl of ice cream maybe?
-if a shower is not really an option, sit on the edge of the tub and wash your feet, massaging them while you do.
when i was in halifax for a week vacation i would get LITERALLY no more than an hour of broken snoozing sleep a night. insomnia at it's worst. i had never had it that bad before. the weird part was though, i wasn't even tired...
/end ramble

I'm more a fan of the cold shower before bed, if I'm sweating in my sheets it's instantly uncomfortable. (well, sweating alone, anyway..)
A banana and a glass of milk is my favourite pre-bedtime snack. If I ever have kids I can totally picture me going through the same bedtime routine as them in the same way.. jammies, snack, brush teeth, some quality rocking time and then all to bed.
Uh oh.. this baby in our midst is planting evil propagation thoughts.. it's like a virus..
