Intractability
You know, if someone decides to ascribe some motive or ill intent to you, and doesn't tell you, then every action you make, everything you say and even the lack of action will be interpreted by him or her in such a way that it fits the narrative in their head and furthers their belief.
It's a trap that's very hard to escape from. No matter what you do, even doing the opposite will still fit their storyline and sink you further down.
It makes you want to disappear entirely, but doing that will be the clincher to prove them right in their own minds and will give the story an ending.
It's a one-sided game of calvinball where the other person makes the rules and you don't even know there's a game on, all the while you're sinking deeper and deeper and everyone knows it but you.
