De-criminalize away. But 1. I don't wanna be inhalin this shit as I walk by. I'm not down with the 'new tobacco' so legislate when and where you go all Cheech and Chong. 2. Tax the hell outta this stuff. We could use the money.

Moral implications my ass. We got gambling, prescription drugs, alcohol, and old school tobacco. Take your pick. The gov't regulates them and you'll always have a percentage of addicted people who don't know better.

Agreed that it is hypocritical to have one thing like alcohol perfectly legal and another like pot illegal.

On the other hand, taxing addiction as a revenue stream is reprehensible and governments should know better. However, marijuana is about the least addictive recreational substance there is. No one smokes a pack a day of weed just in the course of getting through their day. If I had my choice I'd make pot posession legal and get the government completely out of the video gambling business.

I still disagree on the tax issue. You're gonna need the money to help the people that need it. I don't want those dollars taken from elsewhere. And if there's a surplus of cash, so be it.

So don't regulate video gambling? We had one at the restaurant a long time ago. You get hardcore addicted regulars who just plop away their life a coin at a time. Scary.

I wasn't clear, I don't mean that gambling should be privatized. It's already against the law to operate a private gambling machine. I just don't think that government should be allowed to make cash on something that, under normal circumstances, they consider to be unethical / illegal.

And getting addicted to the income they provide is duplicitous and, ultimately, wasteful, given the social problems they exacerbate.

But my original point is that the two, gambling and de-criminalization of marijuana, have little if anything to do with each other.
